USIP

Started my job yesterday. So far, I love it. But with the joy came the news that the House passed a bill to cut all federal funding to USIP... gasp. USIP was blindsided by this, and hopes that it doesn't pass in the Senate (which most likely it won't). I'll keep following this and update you as we know more. For now, here is something from the Post:

Such an awesome night

Where do I even begin?? I went to the most incredible show last night. For those of you who do not know my taste in music, I have very eclectic taste. One day I will jam out to Enrique Iglesias, the next day I will be listening to Guster or indie music, and the next I am listening to screamo. Needless to say, the screamo obsession comes from where I grew up. I'm a beach kid at heart. So when I saw that Underoath and Thursday were coming to the 9:30 club, I knew I had to go. Aubrey said she would come up and go with me... so we went. I had SO much fun. I've never just been myself so much at a concert-- it was way overdue. I went crowd surfing and was just jumping upand down/head banging and having the time of my life. If you haven't heard of these bands, I highly suggest you check them out:

Might not be your cup of tea, but I love this music. Can't say Andrew feels the same, hence why he didn't come with, haha.

BTW just a side note, Underoath is this hardcore Christian band, probably wouldn't think that from listening to their music but figured I'd mention it so you didn't think I liked some devil music, haha.

Feb 13 & 14th

This weekend Andrew and I took a trip down to Virginia Beach to celebrate my mom's 50th birthday with her. We ended up taking her out to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants down there called Lynnhaven Fish House. We also bought her a cake.

Also, while we were in Virginia Beach I decided to get a banjo. It is one hobby I have been wanting to pick up. Now I have one... and for a great deal!

I also have some big news! I had an interview last week with the United States Institute of Peace-- for a Research Assistant position-- and I was offered a job. It still isn't exactly what I'm looking for (a salary position) BUT I will be working in the Academy for Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding. It is at least a step towards what I REALLY want to do in life, which is work in Intl. Development. I am excited and anxious. I told my job just today that I am going to be leaving soon. I'm not really sure what to think quite yet, but I am excited for a change and the possibility to work towards what I want.. and not a job that has no promise for me. Wish me luck! I should be starting next week if all goes well.. and they are also going to be moving to their new office location next month, which should be interesting. If you've ever drove down 66 E to DC and got off on Constitution, it is that new clear building on the left near the Kennedy Center... woo!

Lastly, Andrew and I went to PF Changs tonight for Vday. Since we've spent a lot of money lately we wanted to keep it pretty low-key. Great dinner and glad we had a great first V-day as a married couple. Now onto school work.. blah!

My new banjo!!

No, the shirt wasn't intentional. Yes, I look country.

The writing is an inside joke... Happy 50th mom!

Casual V-day... 2011!

Mason, Dominion & Fleet Foxes

"Days are just drops in the river to be lost always."

Who just feels for that quote the way that I do? I love this Fleet Foxes song called Drops in the River.. it's on repeat on my Itunes right now... check it out. Thank you to my lovely sister-in-law for introducing me to her fav, and now mine, song.

So this past weekend Andrew and I took a trip out to Centreville to spend some time with Andrew's brother Brett and wife Mesia (mentioned above). We literally spent the night over there Friday and Saturday night and played this game that we are ADDICTED to called Dominion. If you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend that you do. At first I was skeptical of this game.. it seemed really nerdy and weird.. and they always compared it to the game Magic which me and Mesia openly hate. But now we are Dominion masters and love to be able to have them to play it with. We even had a couple over to play with us, our friends Michelle and Chad. They picked it up pretty quick and we hope they enjoyed it!

Thirdly, I started my classes. The first week of classes were canceled because of the snow storm that hit Northern VA the last week of January. I'm going to my second classes this week, actually. Already I feel like there is more to do than I have time for. I am taking two classes right now, Intro to Conf Analysis & Res, and Human Rights. Both seem great so far, but I have to make sure to make school my priority. Since I am working full-time and have other obligations, I really have to remind myself to do my reading far in advance (and not wait til last minute to do all 5 chapters in one night...)... since I have been out of school for a year I just have to get back into the swing of things. I do love my program though. I have to say that I really look forward to going to class.

I hope everyone is doing well. Sorry if I've been a little MIA lately.. as you can tell, I am quite the busy bee.

Also, I am going to be going to Virginia Beach this weekend to celebrate my mom's 50th birthday. I can't wait to feel the cool breeze of the ocean on my face. It has been 3 months since I have seen the beach! I am long overdue.
